The Pollinator

Growth copy.jpg

2018. acrylic + ink on canvas.

In 2018, I began to lose clumps of hair as a side effect of a medication I take. In this particular piece, I explore what I thought would be my inevitable, complete hair loss. Growing up there was something sacred about our hair that was always entwined in braids. For me, losing my hair was like I was losing that sacredness.

Here, I pictured myself accepting and releasing the negative emotions that I was going through. Instead, wishing that the experience would breed strength and new growth in my person.
